Blessed

Speaking a blessing over the people of God is so important that God Himself...

“God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent.

Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?

Behold, I have received a command to bless; He has blessed, and I cannot reverse it.

Numbers 23:19-20

No one can reverse the blessing of God that is released upon His people. The word of God is immutable, which means it is unchangeable — “For I am the LORD, I do not change; Therefore you are not consumed, O sons of Jacob” Malachi 3:6 Disobedient children of God are not consumed because His word does not change. A remnant always survives for the purpose of redemption. His covenant is sure and every promise shall come to pass.

An Old Testament prophet by the name of Balaam was offered a sum of money to curse the enemies of a king  named Balak. Because the LORD blessed the children of Israel, they became a threat to surrounding nations because they greatly multiplied after being delivered from Egypt. Our enemies can clearly see the expanse of our territory when the LORD brings us out of bondage. Hear what Balak says to Balaam in Numbers 22:11 — ‘Look, a people has come out of Egypt, and they cover the face of the earth. Come now, curse them for me; perhaps I shall be able to overpower them and drive them out.”

Immediately after the request from Balak, the LORD speaks to Balaam and lets him know in no uncertain terms that he should not curse Israel, because they are blessed. And God said to Balaam, “You shall not go with them; you shall not curse the people, for they are blessed.” Numbers 22:12 The word that proceeded from the mouth of Balaam blessed and could not curse the people of God. Because we are blessed of the LORD we cannot be cursed, though enemies are sure to rise up against us. What the enemy means for evil, God will turn around for good — we are blessed.

The blessings that come with obedience are numerous. At the same time we can bring a curse upon ourselves when we are disobedient. So then, while no enemy can curse what God has blessed, we can expose ourselves by being out of the will of God — disobedience revokes the covering. Exodus 28:3-10 gives a picture of some of the benefits of obedience; Blessed shall you be in the city, and blessed shall you be in the country.

“Blessed shall be the fruit of your body, the produce of your ground and the increase of your herds, the increase of your cattle and the offspring of your flocks.

“Blessed shall be your basket and your kneading bowl. “Blessed shall you be when you come in, and blessed shall you be when you go out. “The LORD will cause your enemies who rise against you to be defeated before your face; they shall come out against you one way and flee before you seven ways. “The LORD will command the blessing on you in your storehouses and in all to which you set your hand, and He will bless you in the land which the LORD your God is giving you. “The LORD will establish you as a holy people to Himself, just as He has sworn to you, if you keep the commandments of the LORD your God and walk in His ways. Then all peoples of the earth shall see that you are called by the name of the LORD, and they shall be afraid of you.

King Balak was afraid of Israel just as the LORD promised. Israel is a type of the church which means we have inherited all these promises as the people of God. If we are willing and obedient we shall eat the good of the land. Isaiah 1:19-20 says — If you are willing and obedient, You shall eat the good of the land; But if you refuse and rebel, You shall be devoured by the sword”; For the mouth of the LORD has spoken.

My prayer is that you will be willing and obedient so that you can be blessed and never cursed.
